founderAbout Manuel “Manny” Segura

Councilman at Large, City of Trenton

Manuel “Manny” Segura is a recognized and respected community leader, who, from an early age, dedicated his life to the service and well-being of others.

Manny, in May of 2002, is the first Latino to be sworn in as councilman for the City of Trenton.  During his tenure as Councilman at Large he has accomplished citywide initiatives focused on education, health care and in promoting the City’s economic growth and renaissance.  A true believer in strengthening communities and in the value of their contributions, Councilman Segura is the founder of six community organizations and the Latino Merchants Association.

An advocate of inclusiveness, his efforts were crowned by the passage of a historic Executive Ordinance that ensured equal protection and public services for all Trenton residents, one of the first such municipal actions in the nation. In 2007, because of his work on behalf of human rights he was appointed public member to Governor Corzine’s Blue Ribbon Panel on Immigrant Policy, where he presented key policy recommendations in education and government affairs.

Previous to his work in the public sector, Manny, worked for Bell Atlantic Communications.  Before this he served as Director for the Center for Hispanic Policy, Research and Development for the NJ Department of Community Affairs, DCA.

His dedication to addressing complex social issues has made him recipient of numerous awards and recognition.  He has participated in significant senatorial and national presidential campaigns, symposiums and think tanks and is founder and member to prestigious boards that include the Downtown Trenton Association, the Mercer County Latino Coalition, NJ Conference on Dominican Affairs and the NJ State Democratic Committee.  Currently, he serves as Chairman for the NJ Dominican American Elected Officials Caucus.

He credits his grandmother, Lila Altagracia Brioso, as his mentor and source of inspiration throughout his life.   He resides in Trenton and is the proud father of Tatiana and Noelia.

Manuel Segura was born in the Dominican Republic and immigrated to the United States at an early age.  He graduated from Trenton State College with a B. S. in Public Administration and obtained a degree in Systems Design in Communication with Bell Atlantic, today Verizon.
